Burying Bad News In The Veg Patch

Council Turnip Head

Keeping councillors busy is a vital work creation scheme-not just for councillors, who have to justify their vast allowances, but for the chronically underemployed and sickeningly overpaid PR staff at Hornton Towers. Why was this ludicrous and pointless press release sent out? One would have thought that the previous item about Crossrail would have topped the agenda. Jobs are being slashed throughout the Rotten Borough so sending out this sort of rubbish seems to go out of it's way to prove our council is run by a bunch of turnip heads!

This is what  Cllr Paget-Brown, our £60,000 a year Deputy Leader had to say, "I hope as many people as possible get along to Portobello Road to enjoy some of the treats on offer at the Festival of British Roots. There are some real treats on offer from hearty stews to delicious cupcakes." Sorry Nick, this is just embarrassing......

Seasonal root vegetables from market traders on Portobello Road will be turned into a variety of tempting winter dishes by Alan Rosenthal, the chef and author of `Stewed!', as part of the Festival of British Roots (Friday 27 and Saturday 28 January) organised by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Those with a sweet tooth will be able to buy beetroot and chocolate cupcakes baked by the Hummingbird Bakery at its Portobello Road shop.

Children from local primary schools will be taking part in a range of veg-related activities in a gazebo on Portobello Square organised by the Primary Care Trust. The children will be introduced to the local Kitchen Garden Project and given root vegetable seeds by the Council. A bicycle-powered smoothie machine will be used to blend root vegetable soups and the children will turn into `veg detectives' when they are asked to guess the secret ingredient in cakes, breads, pies and drinks.
